Warren Zevon

Warren Zevon

Warren Zevon was an American rock singer and songwriter known for his sharp wit, dark humor, and vivid storytelling. Rising to fame with hits like Werewolves of London, Lawyers Guns and Money, and Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner from his acclaimed album Excitable Boy, Zevon also wrote influential songs recorded by other artists, including Poor Poor Pitiful Me and Hasten Down the Wind. His work combined sardonic tales of misfits and danger with moments of vulnerability in ballads like Mutineer and Accidentally Like a Martyr. After early years as a session musician and songwriter, he gained wider recognition thanks to Linda Ronstadt's covers of his songs, leading to a loyal following for over two decades. Zevon briefly teamed up with members of R E M in the group Hindu Love Gods and was a frequent, memorable guest on David Letterman's shows, where his humor and insight stood out. Zevon died in 2003 but his music and influence endure, and he was posthumously selected for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2025.
