Roy Haynes

Roy Haynes

Roy Haynes (1925–2024) was a legendary American jazz drummer whose energetic style and crisp snare work earned him the nickname Snap Crackle in the 1950s. Over a career of more than eighty years, he became one of the most recorded drummers in jazz, performing in genres from swing and bebop to fusion and avant-garde. Haynes pioneered modern jazz drumming and led notable groups such as the Hip Ensemble. His albums Fountain of Youth and Whereas received Grammy nominations, and in 1999 he was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame.
