Roberto Roena Vázquez (1940–2021) was a legendary Puerto Rican salsa percussionist, orchestra leader, and dancer. A founding member of Cortijo y su Combo and later El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, he went on to create and lead Roberto Roena y Su Apollo Sound, known as one of Puerto Rico’s top salsa bands. Roena was also a key figure in the Fania All Stars, contributing to the group’s global success and enduring influence in salsa music.
