Miroslav Žbirka

Miroslav Miro Žbirka (1952–2021) was a prominent Slovak singer and songwriter known for his significant influence on pop and rock music in 1980s Czechoslovakia. Born in Bratislava to a Slovak father and English mother, he performed in Slovak, Czech, and English. He co-founded the popular bands Modus and Limit, and his solo career soared after winning the Zlatý slavík award for best male singer in 1982. Žbirka continued to achieve success in Slovakia, topping the Slávik Awards multiple times. He performed internationally, including collaborations with Jon Anderson, and often recorded in London while living in Slovakia and later Prague. In recognition of his cultural impact, an asteroid was named after him in 2019. Žbirka passed away in 2021 in Prague, leaving behind his final album, completed posthumously by his son.
