Digital Underground

Digital Underground

Digital Underground is an alternative hip hop group from Oakland, California, formed in 1987 by Gregory Shock G Jacobs, Kenneth Kenny-K Waters, and Jimi Chopmaster J Dright. Known for their playful style and heavy use of 1970s funk samples, they helped define the sound of West Coast rap. The group’s rotating lineup contributed to its creative and energetic approach, while Shock G remained its guiding force. Digital Underground launched the career of Tupac Shakur and influenced several side projects like Raw Fusion, Saafir, and Mystic. They achieved mainstream success with their hits Doowutchyalike and The Humpty Dance, and toured internationally through 2008. Despite Shock G's passing in 2021, Digital Underground's legacy continues with ongoing performances.
