Boz Scaggs

William Royce "Boz" Scaggs, born June 8, 1944, is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist known for his smooth blend of rock, blues, and soul. He started out in the early 1960s playing alongside Steve Miller in the Ardells and later joined the Steve Miller Band. Launching his solo career in 1969, Scaggs achieved breakthrough success with his 1976 album Silk Degrees, which featured the hits "Lido Shuffle" and "Lowdown." He continued his streak with platinum albums Down Two Then Left and Middle Man, producing more popular singles like "Breakdown Dead Ahead" and "Jojo." After a break in the 1980s, Scaggs returned to music with the album Other Roads and became part of the New York Rock and Soul Revue. He also founded Slim's, a celebrated San Francisco nightclub. Over the decades, Scaggs has remained active, releasing albums into the 2010s, including Out of the Blues in 2018. Scaggs played a key role in the formation of the band Toto by bringing together musicians David Paich, David Hungate, and Jeff Porcaro for the recording of Silk Degrees, helping launch their careers. His influence spans generations, highlighted by ongoing collaborations with many artists throughout his career.
