Goran Bregović, born in 1950 in Sarajevo, is one of the most renowned musicians and composers from the Balkans. Rising to fame as the lead guitarist and creative force behind Bijelo Dugme, the legendary Yugoslav rock band, Bregović later established a successful solo career. He is internationally recognized for his vibrant blend of Balkan, rock, and folk influences, and has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall. Bregović is also acclaimed for his film scores, particularly for collaborations with director Emir Kusturica, including Time of the Gypsies and Underground, as well as work on La Reine Margot. Over more than five decades, he has worked with celebrated artists like Iggy Pop, Sezen Aksu, and Cesária Évora, cementing his status as a leading figure in world music.
