The DeArmond 1100 Rhythm Chief floating single coil pickup has been a staple feature of Guild archtops since the mid-1950s. Besides providing a natural, woody, acoustic tone, another innovative feature was the fingerboard mounting bar. This allowed installation of the pickup in the neck position of the guitar without having to alter the solid wood soundboard. It continues to be one of the most sought after archtop guitar pickups today.
