System of a Down

System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in Glendale, California, in 1994. The current lineup features Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan. Known for their unique blend of aggressive music and socially conscious lyrics, the band tackles themes such as war, political corruption, and human rights. They rose to prominence with five studio albums, three of which debuted at number one on the US charts. Their hit “B.Y.O.B.” earned them a Grammy Award in 2006. After a hiatus in 2006, the band reunited in 2010 and released new music in 2020, but their last full albums remain Mezmerize and Hypnotize from 2005. Globally, System of a Down has sold over 12 million records, and their songs "Aerials" and "Hypnotize" both reached number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. All members share Armenian heritage, bringing their cultural background into their music and activism.
