Blur

Blur

Blur is a British rock band from London, formed in 1988 by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree. Beginning with the dance and shoegaze-influenced album Leisure in 1991, Blur soon shifted towards a more melodic, guitar-driven sound inspired by classic British pop, releasing Modern Life Is Rubbish, Parklife, and The Great Escape. This run of albums made them leading figures in the Britpop movement and brought them widespread UK popularity, marked by a high-profile rivalry with Oasis. Evolving their style over time, Blur’s self-titled album in 1997 incorporated American indie rock influences and produced their breakthrough US hit, Song 2. Later albums, 13 and Think Tank, found the band exploring electronic, experimental, and world music sounds. After a hiatus following 2003’s Think Tank, Blur reunited in 2009, returning to touring and recording. In 2015, they released The Magic Whip, their first album in twelve years, followed by The Ballad of Darren in 2023. Blur remain known for their inventive approach and lasting impact on British music.
