Universal Audio Volt 476

Universal Audio created the Volt 476 for people who want to work with bands, producers, live streamers and content creators who simply want to record larger projects with big studio sound.

Plug it directly into your Mac, PC, iPad or iPhone, and the Volt simply pops up, ready to capture your productions with legendary sound courtesy of Universal Audio.

From the team that brought you the groundbreaking Apollo interface, the Volt 476 delivers superb studio-quality audio with more character and tone than any USB interface in its class.

Few recordings can compare to the vintage Universal Audio 610 tube preamp that was used to record everyone from Ray Charles to Van Halen. The Volt 476 gives you the rich, full sound of this iconic preamp thanks to a built-in tube emulation circuit that's exclusive to UA.

Get album-ready punch and presence with the built-in Volt 476 76 Compressor - an innovative analog circuit inspired by UA's famous 1176 limiting amp. Compressor 76 includes three perfectly tailored presets for controlling vocals, guitars, synths and drum machines. Just plug in, select a setting and play.

The Volt 476 offers you simple 4-in/4-out audio connections. Just plug mics and guitars into the front panel preamps and use the line inputs for synthesizers and drum machines. Then connect speakers or headphones and monitor the sound without delay. With Volt, you'll create like a pro, and quickly.

With a sturdy metal construction, retro wooden sides and a sleek industrial design, the Volt 476 will elevate your production space with impeccable style that will last for decades.

This is just beautiful...eats competition (in this price range) for diner. UA is known for pro audio since pro audio exists and they for sure did not disappoint this time. Easy to use, great great sound + vintage and compressor buttons are doing magic!

Build quality, look and UX are great on this thing. Very idiot-proof and simple to use. Compared to my Steinberg UR22mk2 it has more power to drive the headphones, though less goes to studio monitors. The sound is more vivid, a little less smooth, with less bass and more piercing highs. Stage has less depth but it's definitely wider. While it may sound negative, thanks to the great perceived separation of tracks, I'm able to hear much more details in recordings. I can precisely hear what this supporting background vocal buried in the background actually does, and what notes are played on the bass even in busier moments. Quality of instrument input is like day and night (again, I'm comparing to the UR22mk2, I don't have much experience with other interfaces or DI boxes). Comp in "guitar" setting brings bite and attack, and some tube-ish quality, especially evident in soloing. Adds some extra meat to the bass guitar as well. It can be noisy though, so you may have to adjust your noise gate settings. Direct monitoring is always a nice feature, but latency is so low, that there is no need to turn it on when tracking. And I'm using 10 years old Mac mini. I didn't yet try the mic preamp, as I don't record vocals and only sporadically work on acoustic gtr. I will try to add this info later if possible. Overall - for guitar direct recording, and for analytic listening/mixing, this piece of gear is well worth the money. And it feels and looks damn classy.
