MOOG Theremini

Theremin with a traditional heterodyning oscillator for pitch control combined with a sound engine derived from the award winning synthesizer Animoog – modern re-imagination if one of the oldest electronic musical instruments in history. It fuses the experience of performing with an instrument without touching it, and guarantees immediate success to any player while providing new ways to experiment with music, education and gestural control. Theremin features an assistive pitch quantization that allows each player to adjust the instrument’s level of playing difficulty (when set to minimum, it performs as a traditional Theremin), a pitch correction with selectable scales and root note, and 32 Wave or Wavetable based presets. It is equipped with a built-in tuner that supplies real-time visual feedback of each not as it is played, as well as its proximity to perfection, and a compact built-in speaker for private rehearsal and quick setup anywhere. Silent rehearsal is possible via the front panel headphone jack. For live performance and gestural control, the rear panel features two line-level audio outputs, a pitch CV output with selectable range, and a mini USB jack for MIDI I/O connectivity. Theremin also provides an adjustable stereo ping-pong delay, a removable pitch antenna that can be stored in a storage compartment on bottom-side, a built-in 3/8” mic stand and camera stand adaptor, 128 x 64 pixel LCD screen with white backlight, and high-quality rubberized feet.

Using scales and quantization is a great tool. If you're serious in learning to play, take this digital version as your first theremin, otherwise you'll sound as cats during mating season. When you learn to be really still, than you can slowly go to analog-continuous sound playing (quantization pluged off). It's not a toy, it it actually what you make of it and how much time you invest in practising. Good for ear training.
